CALCULATION OF ORDER COST
Having a certain experience in translation field we have come to a conclusion that merely every single customer desires to know the cost of work when placing an order rather than at the end of the work based on the «as much as it takes» principle.
Therefore Translation Agency «Trados» determines the final cost of translation based on the original text except for cases where it is merely impossible.
So, what is the method of our calculation?
For a conventional page we take 1800 spaced characters including punctuation marks.
In case texts are submitted in Microsoft Word format (rtf, doc, docx, txt etc.) the number of pages is calculated based on the original text with the help of a Microsoft Word «word count” function by dividing the number of spaced characters by 1800.
In case texts to be translated are submitted in the format that does not support data conversion into Microsoft Word format in printed or handwritten form the calculation is made based on the translated text with the help of a Microsoft Word «word count» function by dividing the number of spaced characters by 1800.
What should be done in case the amount of text cannot be determined automatically?
Sometimes it is hard to calculate an exact cost of an order. For instance, a text to be translated is submitted in handwritten form, in the form of diagrams, illustrations, drawings.
Even in this case our managers will try to calculate the amount of order with a maximum accuracy and in 90% of cases you will have an exact order amount. Our managers are experienced enough to correctly assess the cost of translation of a text even though it is submitted in a non-electronic format.
We guarantee that in this case the final order amount will not differ from the initial calculation by more than 25%.
All we said above can be demonstrated by examples as follows
- The source text is submitted in Microsoft Word (rtf, doc, docx, txt etc.), Open Office (odt), and other text formats. The page number is calculated based on the original text with the help of a Microsoft Word «word count» function by dividing the number of spaced characters by 1800.
- The source text is submitted in pdf, gif, jpg, tiff., bmp, and other graphic formats. If possible the files are converted into text format where subsequently the page number is calculated with the help of a Microsoft Word «word count» function by dividing the number of spaced characters by 1800.
- The source text is submitted in the form of presentations (Microsoft Power Point)The number of characters is calculated with the help of statistical data based on the word number (1 word ia taken for 9 characters)
- The source text is submitted in the drawing format (Autocad)In this case we take one drawing for a conventional page.
